Story: Ada Mae

The story is about a young woman (Ada is a Nigerian name meaning "first daughter." ) who after a tragic car accident when she was little, killed her parents instantly and Ada hasn’t spoken since - selective mutism. Ada has been bounced around from Foster care to Foster care and finally ends up on her own at an age of 18 working at an Amazon warehouse. She starts going to church where she meets an older and wiser person named Ada Mae {Culturally, Ada-mae embodies a spirit of resilience and independence}, who is a Bible teacher and becomes a mother figure the young Ada. Unfortunately, Ada-mae develops cancer and slowly, but surely passes away. Her remains are in a box and her last wishes for the young Ada was to scatter her ashes in the park where they used to go and sit and she would teach Ada to speak again, about resilience, independence, God, and life. After spreading the ashes in the park, the young Ada sits down on a park bench and sees a young man, lawn service employee, do a good deed. He sees Ada sitting on the park bench and knows Ada saw him do his good deed, walks over to Ada and asks her, her name. Ada simply replies without hesitation very clearly, Ada-mae and smiles.

The story is about a pop diva recalling her shy but gifted 12 year old self who entered a local singing contest in order to save her church from bankruptcy.

A deeply depressed mother’s life is pulled up from depression when an alien takes the form of her recently deceased daughter and teaches and strengthens her to go on with her life.
